2023 HOLIDAY DECORATIONS WINNERS

CCH is ablaze for the Holidays, a sparkling splendor of seasonal spirit. The CCH Garden Club judging committee traveled the streets Monday evening, December 18th, viewing the many contenders.  This year, the competition was fierce with an abundance of creative contributions in the four categories, making the judging committee’s decisions no easy task.  Picking just four is always difficult, so we will look to enhance the categories next year to be more inclusive of the variety of creative contributions.  As always, we greatly appreciate all the effort our homeowners put into decorating the neighborhood to illuminate our community. Without further ado, here are the 2023 winners!

TRADITIONAL: The Rosenberger family at 9915 Pinehurst Avenue is our pick this year for the traditional category. Their display centered around a radiant representation of the manger, with warmly illuminated pine boughs embracing the baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The windows outlined with seasonal greenery and adorned with wreaths, and the undulating warm white lights on the roof create an inviting ambiance, encouraging onlookers to pause and reflect on the true reason for the season.

INFLATABLES: The Toskovich residence at 3512 Spring Lake Terrace stole the show in the inflatables category. A whimsical menagerie of illuminated inflatable characters, including Santa, reindeer, polar bear, penguin, Yoda, and Mickey Mouse, took center stage against their thoughtfully lit house. The roofline, embellished with warm white icicle lights, and the colorful lights on the bushes complemented each other, while red and green laser lights danced around the brick facade, adding an extra touch of holiday magic.

BEST LIGHTING: The Koerner family home at 3404 Brookwood Drive illuminated the night and claimed the prize for the best lighting. Vibrant multi-colored lights decked the roofline, chimney, and front bushes, showcasing meticulous attention to detail.  A stand-alone candy cane completes the scene.  We really appreciated the effort taken to include coordinated tones of colored lights and the extra work involved in lining the roofline, transforming their home into a radiant beacon of holiday cheer.

JUDGES CHOICE: The McKenzie family at 3408 Brookwood Drive captured the judges’ hearts with a striking display, there is so much to enjoy here!  Warm white and red lights blanketed bushes and trees, leading to a welcoming front door decorated with seasonal decorations. The focal wreath, red stars, candy canes, and winter characters showcased a level of detail and coordination that left a lasting impression on the judges.

HONORABLE MENTION: A nod of appreciation went to the Crawford family at 3415 Andover Drive for their wonderful incorporation of elements from each category. Warm white lights line the roof, with sparking lights that highlight a festive Merry Christmas sign and a charming train in the front yard. Traditional themes were beautifully captured through candle-lit windows with red-bow-adorned wreaths, and a cute snowman hugged the lamppost, spreading joy to all that pass by.

The CCH Garden Club expresses their heartfelt appreciation for all the decorations that made this year’s holiday season unforgettable.  We look forward to what next year will bring.

Happy Holidays!

2022 Holiday Decorations Winners

Thank you to everyone for lighting up CCH for the Holidays. This year, once again, it is definitely a delightful display of holiday spirit. The CCH Garden Club judging committee traveled the streets Tuesday evening, December 20th, viewing the dozens of strong contestants. There were many amazing designs to pick from in our four categories.  Decisions were tough and we did our best to highlight those that had not won in recent years.  We greatly appreciate all the effort our homeowners put into decorating the neighborhood to illuminate our community.

Traditional

The Jones’ family at 3506 Spring Lake Terrace takes the nod this year for the traditional category.  Each window contains the warm glow of flickering candles and is adorned with greenery with pops of red bows.  An illuminated large wreath on the front of the house enhances the ambience and draws you in.  A nice addition is the lighted contrast of bright white containers containing a mix of greens, reds and whites against a sea of green pachysandra.

Inflatables

Enhancing their previous year’s display, our victor for inflatables is at 3401 Park Hill Place.  The Rodriguez family added several new characters and a colorful greeting that is visible as you pass the Commons. With so much square footage, it is difficult to light up this entire corner. Now with their well-spaced additions, they really “blew” it up this year. A final nice touch is a beautiful lighted tree in the window that really brings this winner to new heights.

Best Lighting

The home of Kevin and Leslie at 3403 Park Hill Place is the eye popper for 2022. Tucked in and shielded on the sides it can be hard to see what a spectacle of brilliantly matching lights this home provides. We really appreciated the effort they took in making sure that all illuminated areas contains matching tones of colored lights. They have always had a nice display, but this year with all of the bushes lit, the driveway lined lights, Christmas tree, and wreath they have seriously upgraded their game. Congratulations to the best lit home this year!

Judges Choice

Hands down, well more like star up! The judges really appreciated the effort and illumination from the home of Matt and Pam at 10001 Blackthorn court. Looking up from the bottom of the hill at the corner of Pinehurst and Brookwood, this attraction is quite a sight to behold. As recent new comers to the CCH, they have really stepped up their display this year.

Of course, the Abominable snow man from the classic Rudolph movie is the big draw holding up the STAR to top the tree of our winter wonderland.

As a side note, we did notice quite a few homes put up lights after we did our tour, thank you! Your effort is not unnoticed. Please keep making our neighborhood the kind of place people want to visit.

Happy Holidays!

Annual Creek Clean-up – Pictures

The Country Club Hills Community hosted Friends of Accotink Creek and were joined by special guest Delegate David Bulova – a true champion of our environment-for our annual Creek Clean Up at The Commons.

Some of our older children read a book called The Water Walker by Joanne Robertson. A book about a Native American’s plight to draw attention to our special relationship with water.

Another highlight for the kids and adults alike was Stream Monitoring, which catches and counts the number of macroinvertebrates in order to assess stream health. We found our stream is not in great condition with a score of 5, but now are aware we all need to work to improve its health.

We had a large crowd, collected lots of trash, learned about creek critters, and overall had a great time taking care of our precious resources along with our neighbors.

Country Club Hills is an amazing place!

Recording/Power Point Trail Meeting

Unfortunately, the recording seems to no longer be on the City’s website. Efforts to contact the City about it have proven futile. 🙁

Part of the 6/29 meeting about the Connector Trail was recorded. Click the link below to view. The record button wasn’t hit until after the City had completed the description of the current plan, so the recording only has the discussion that occurred afterward.
